Before Everything Starts...
- Go through my previous works and make sure you like my style(s).
I am good at: realistic style; oil painting tones, transforming dolls' facial structures with shadowing; realistic skin features, scars/wounds;
I am not good at: innocent girls, makeup, very delicate facial tattoo design; working as a copy machine.
- I DO NOT copy other face-up artists' work. Each artist have her/his own personality, brushwork, and techniques. We also use different materials. I can not even copy my own works. I can not guarantee the final result look exactly as references.
- Dolls I don't work on: any Counterfeit/Recast; Dolls from controversial studios such as ATStudio; any head with a circumference less than 9cm/3.54in. DD/MDD heads are acceptable, but I will paint them as BJDs.
- I use pastels for toning, watercolor, and acrylic for strokes. I may not take some of the non-human dolls with ears or horns, as pastel wouldn't work very well on these structures. Artists using airbrush will work on these dolls better than I do. Of course, you are welcome to consult me on Instagram ahead.
- My working period is 20-60 days, depending on the complexity of the commissions, the weather, and where your doll is in the queue. Heads will be worked on according to their arriving date. 4-6 finished heads will return home every week.
- Have a head ready to ship. If you ordered a doll, wait till you receive it and confirm its condition. Please do not have the manufacturer send it directly to me. It's the same for dolls from a previous owner. If you have the preowner send me a doll, and find it has quality issues after you receive it from me, I will not meddle in any argument/conflict.
- All face-ups are painted by hand. A minuscule amount of asymmetry, dust or imperfect areas, are to be expected, although I always try my best to prevent it.
- Any parcel transportation comes with risks of damaging or/and lost, especially the international parcels. Be responsible for your doll heads when it comes to packing and shipping. Let's work together to avoid that.
Please Understand:
- I don't actually pick heads, but I DO pick requests. I might not pick a commission if it's out of my capabilities, even though I always push myself very hard trying new things.
- I usually spend 4-8 hours on each head, meaning my hourly income from this hobby is not high at all. Please do not bargain on prices.
How Does It Work?
- Send an email to gongshin@gmail.com within the open window with a brief info of your doll (up to 3 dolls per request and I might not take all of them) :
- 2-3 pictures of the blank head/official display
- Doll’s gender: (male/female/unisex, not official sex)
- Request: ( If there are reference pics, please upload the image, not links. )
- Taboo/Elements you definitely don't want: (2 for Basic work, 4 for others)
- Owner’s location (country)
- I respond slot winners with deposit and shipping info within 48 hours. You pack the doll(s) up, slide in the physical note(s) (see content here), and ship the head(s) within 2 weeks.
❗ I will paint your doll according to this note. Any other requirement contradictory to it during later confirmation steps will be ignored.
- I check the condition and inform you upon the arrival of your package.
- For commissions other than Basic Work, I will send you photos of draft and process on ig showing eyebrow shape, eye structures, and expressions etc.
- Before the final coating and gloss, I send you photos for confirmation. You confirm, or ask for denser colors/lines at this point, but nothing can be removed or reduced. I then send you the final looks if changes are made.
- Final coating with at least 3 layers of sealants, gloss, and eyelashes will be applied.
- I send an invoice to your PayPal or inform you the balance on ig.
- After the balance is paid, I send off your doll(s) and notify you with tracking number.
- Leave me a msg when the head(s) arrives home, especially if you are oversea.
Packing Tips:
☺ Make sure the following items are packed:
1. Physical request note
2. Doll head, wrapped with tissue/form paper, covered by a mask, in a container. When you shake the container, you won't hear the head moving around inside.
- If you do not have a mask, make sure you put the head in a container. Any plastic storage container is a good option, sturdy small paper box works too.
- Please do not use metal (will cause problem when scanned by post systems/the Custom) or glass containers (will hurt resin if breaks).
- If you have neither of them... make sure your cardboard box is sturdy and snuggling (6x6x6in for example), and fully padded. Do not let head bumping around in it.
☺ Things DO NOT include: wigs, eyes, etc., unless the doll is of special size, and/or you want to see how the face would look like with the eyes and wigs.☺ Make sure to put enough padding in the cardboard box.
☺ Use a cardboard box not too large to avoid any addiction charge. If you don’t have a box of the right size, get one at the local store. If the box is badly damaged when it arrive, I might replace it with a new box on your cost.
☺ For international parcels, make sure to use a sturdy cardboard box WITHOUT suggesting there is battery or fruit in it (a box says "First Grade Apple" or "AAA Battery full pack" will definitely catch the Custom's attention!) .
